FAMILIES forward
Families Forward is a 501 (c) (3) corporation created by Housing Works. The nonprofit’s mission is to facilitate the transition to self-sufficiency for Housing Works’ residents and program participants. It is a means to obtain the resources and collaborative partnerships needed to:

    * Support the programs, services and activities needed to increase the opportunities for individuals and families to achieve economic independence and to fulfill their dreams of homeownership;

    * Afford the children of our property residents and program participants the access to social, cultural, and educational enrichment opportunities; and

    * Encourage family unity, stability, and sharing.

Families Forward supports:

The Gateway Center

Gateway Center is a door way through which an individual can gain access resources and services aimed at enhancing their ability to secure and succeed in better employment opportunities; and to open the doorway to new skills and lifestyles. The Center is open to all the people in Central Oregon who are receiving assistance through Housing Works' programs and affordable housing communities and to the clients of community partners.

Gateway Center is located at 2445 SW Canal Blvd in Redmond, Oregon. For hours or for more information on Gateway Center, contact our Resident Services Manager at 541-923-1018.

Opportunities for Kids (OK) Scholarships

The OK Scholarship Fund is used for lower income children in Housing Works' programs and affordable housing communities to participate in social, educational and enrichment activities and programs offered through community organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Oregon, the Parks & Recreation districts, and Campfire USA.

The goal of the scholarship fund is to provide the resources to assist parents in providing year round safe, quality learning and enrichment opportunities to their children during the hours directly after school and when school is not in session. The ability to participate in the programs offered by organizations throughout the Central Oregon communities will allow Housing Works' children to meet a diverse group of youngsters of similar ages and have access to educational, cultural and recreational events and other field trips, expanding their experiences.

Ready-to-Rent

This 4-6 week program is aimed at creating more housing opportunities for renters who may have past issues that are barring them from finding housing. The housing readiness education allows program participants to work closely with housing specialists and collaborative organizations to accept responsibility for past rental issues; repair credit and create a workable budget; develop a housing search plan; understand the application and rental process; and how to communicate effectively with their landlord. Through the information provided in the program, at-risk renters can become successful renters.

W.O.M.E.N. in Transformation

The collaborative W.O.M.E.N. in Transformation program assists women in identifying and overcoming obstacles in their lives that have prevented them from achieving their personal and career goals. The program consists of three 2-hour classes offering information on a range of topics including occupations, professional appearance and self-confidence, educational opportunities as well as an opportunity for mentoring from successful local business women.

Moving Forward

The Moving Forward Fund helps individuals defray the high up-front costs of moving into a new rental home. A portion of the required new deposits is paid for the applicant family by Families Forward directly to the new landlord.
