the GATEWAY center

Gateway Center is a door way through which an individual can gain access resources and services aimed at enhancing their ability to secure and succeed in better employment opportunities; and to open the doorway to new skills and lifestyles. The Center is open to all the people in Central Oregon who are receiving assistance through Housing Works' programs and affordable housing communities and to the clients of community partners.

A One Stop Shop for Success

Gateway Center is a place for people to access the resources and the services they might need to assist them in taking that next step to self sufficiency. The Center offers space for meetings, workshops and seminars such as:

* Ready-to-Rent

This 4-6 week program is aimed at creating more housing opportunities for renters who may have past issues that are barring them from finding housing. The housing readiness education allows program participants to work closely with housing specialists and collaborative organizations to accept responsibility for past rental issues; repair credit and create a workable budget; develop a housing search plan; understand the application and rental process; and how to communicate effectively with their landlord. Through the information provided in the program, at-risk renters can become successful renters.

* W.O.M.E.N. in Transformation

The collaborative W.O.M.E.N. in Transformation program assists women in identifying and overcoming obstacles in their lives that have prevented them from achieving their personal and career goals. The program consists of three 2-hour classes offering information on a range of topics including occupations, professional appearance and self-confidence, educational opportunities as well as an opportunity for mentoring from successful local business women.

* A Clothing Boutique

Business and workforce appropriate clothing along with one-on-one counseling on how to dress for the job you have and the job you want, is made available to graduates of W.O.M.E.N. in Transformation
