BARBARA'S PLACE OPENING

Housing Works is celebrating the opening of Barbara’s Place on November 16th at 1:00 PM in Redmond. Barbara’s Place is a six-unit apartment community designed to provide supportive housing for persons with disabilities.

Barbara’s Place is the first multi-family building certified to the Earth Advantage Gold Standard in the region. Pinnacle Architecture designed the building and CS Construction has led the six month build.

Barbara’s Place will employ the Housing PLUS (Permanent Living Utilizing Services) model which is widely considered to be successful and cost-effective. The principal objectives for Housing PLUS include moving homeless individuals into safe housing and providing them with case management support to access needed comprehensive social services. It is a tool being offered in communities across the country in an effort to end and prevent homelessness, by working with very low-income people who cannot obtain or continue their housing because of complex challenges. Housing Works is partnering with Deschutes County to provide ongoing support services to residents.

In addition to a grant award from Oregon Housing and Community Services, funding for the project included a grant from the Oregon Department of Human Services Addictions and Mental Health and leveraged dollars from Housing Works.

Barbara’s Place is named in honor of Barbara Stone, a long-time Housing Works’ Board Member and advocate for disabled members of the community.
